Talk Title:
Developmental proteomics: the importance of age specific differences in the human plasma proteome

Biography:
A/Prof Vera Ignjatovic leads a highly productive, internationally competitive research laboratory in the field of paediatric haemostasis. Her research focuses on Developmental Haemostasis, the concept describing age-specific differences in the haemostatic system and the implications of those differences for anticoagulation treatment in children. Since her introduction to the world of Proteomics in 2008, she has been committed to promoting the use of proteomics in translational research. A/Prof Ignjatovic has served as a member of the Australasian Proteomics Society board of management and is a co-founder of the Paediatric Proteomics (PediOme) initiative through HUPO. She has a special interest in Developmental Proteomics, the age-specific differences in the human proteome, with a particular focus on the plasma proteome. A/Prof Ignjatovic is the proteomics consultant on a number of projects ranging from investigations of lung injury in prematurity to mild traumatic brain injury and vascular malformations in children.

Abstract:
Developmental proteomics: the importance of age specific differences in the human plasma proteome
Human plasma proteomics studies have to date focused largely on: specific disease settings, detecting the highest number of proteins, as well as the effect of therapeutics on plasma protein expression. The majority of these studies have been adult-based, with very few studies and hence limited knowledge of the plasma proteome in neonates, infants and children. Developmental Proteomics, with a focus on age-specific differences in the human plasma proteome can be extremely useful in providing much needed knowledge, particularly as proteomics edges towards clinical applications/diagnostics. This presentation will outline the importance of unraveling age-based differences in the human plasma proteome.
